Compass- judge 2 (bought around 1970 something)

I have read in the postings that someone took the AAA battery packs out and used 3 - 9volts in the place of the 12 - 1.5 volts in their Compass judge 2. This means the machine is using 27 volts instead of the usual 18 volts. Will this harm the detector?

Yes it will most likely Cause the Magic Smoke to appear.   Your Machine is suppose to use  Three separate   4AA (6V) packs.   No Clue as to what's going on there.   One Pack (6V) is for the Audio Circuit and the other two (6V) are used for the Detection Circuit (12V Plus and Minus 6V from 0 Zero).
