Two that you could start with are the buried silver on Chouteau's Island near the Colorado-Kansas Border. Because of changes in the flow of the Arkansas River, the island has disappeared, but in 1828 a wagon train of traders from Santa Fe were being chased by a band of Indians. They supposedly buried a large amount of silver on the island in an attempt to lighten the load sufficiently to escape...unfortunately it doesn't seemed to have worked well forthem since only 4 or 5 of the men managed to make it to Independence, Missouri. The missing silver supposedly has not been found. Another that you can check out is "what happened to the $52,811 that Clay Allison supposedly stole from the Las Animas bank...unfortunately, Clay broke his neck and died without telling where the money was stashed. (give you a warning, on this last one there's a couple of holes big enough to drive a Mack truck through, so take it with a grain of salt). If you live in the area, you should be able to pick up plenty of leads in your local library.
