Have got quite a few coins that I dug up in the beach. Some of them are oxidized (?) with a lot of crud on them. In reading the posts on this forum, will the suggestions work with these coins or do I have to do so etching else. I'm quite sure they are not valuable but would like to clean them up if I can or are they not worth the effort?  Thanks!

Try tumbling them in a rock tumbler with fine aquarium gravel, a little water, and a few drops of dishwashing detergent.  It works on non-valuable coins.  Do Not mix pennies with any other coins.  They will end up with a copper tone you don't want.
