Well, FYI, I used a chain style key chain reel. I took out the chain (which hangs unless you pull it exactly straight out) and put nylon parachute cord in its place. A few experiments to see about the right length and Bob's your uncle. Now, as long as I don't get any taller . . .

Thanks for that, That's a great Idea, I will do A search for A reel that will fill the need,

Taller No, Wider Yes,

I picked that reel for the holding strength. It won't retract the scoop but it will hold it in place. You still have to lift the scoop and swing it around back. Once there, it stays. I played with a large magnet but since I couldn't see it, I would occasionally let the scoop click on it too hard and break the magnet. Went through a half dozen that way before I tried the reel.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Something like that would be A God Send, I have tried tool belt Hammer Loops, and I stuck the point in my back, I tried dragging it on string and it kept getting caught up or the String Snapped every second Trip, Once I even dented my Head ( that Hurt) Violent

We could go wild and look like the Clampett's truck on the Beverly Hillbillies. Clanking and banging around. People would be scared to approach us.

I usually stop and talk to the senior Citizens who walk by and give them the Item I have just dug up if not I give them an old Coin from yester year  that I may of found that day and they always come to chat when ever we happen to meet, So I think the loud Approach might cost me some Nice conversations and worry people,

RR you were asking about why does a PI detector have problems when in the wet? well the way that I figure it out is because frequency travels a lot faster in water (about 4* faster than in air), this would cause the off time of the coil to be too slow and causing the detector to detect it's own magnetic field instead of the eddy currents.

Yes, when building a PI detector we always try and make the off time as short as possible to get a better detection depth, they all have a power POT (as far as I know) that are used for the prevention of bounce in rocky or very hard soil (frequency will travel faster on hard soil than in sandy soil) so by reducing the power you will get round the off time being too slow.

X,   I'm not so sure Radio or EMF follows that rule of Faster in water.    Different Animals then Audio Air or Vibrations.  If EMF does it's not that much different.
