Well if you really want to know US history and facts, you should put a bug in BA's ear (so to speak). He knows a lot.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

As it progresses maybe people could post finds from the different era's, It doesn't matter if it is an old miners lamp or buckles etc as long as it starts from way back and then come forward to modern day,

I'd suggest that most of us who are serious treasure hunters are more than just casual historians. I researched my property back to the land grant days in the mid 1500s. I have copies of deeds going back that far with pre Revolutionary war royal stamps on them. I do historical research as a hobby now, even having cards printed. You have NO idea how many places that has opened for me with my detector.

PM me with your address and I will send you a card.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

How come you can go back on the Bases after you have finished serving??

most bases allow visitors  and have visitor passes. For civilians .

if you get out before  your eligible  for retirement  then you  lose your  privileges  .

unless you  get out on a medical  over a certain  percentage  then you can  still  maintain  a
retired identification  card. Which still allows access  to commissary  and px/bx  exchanges
also Jag   (lawyer's) and medical  etc. Same for anyone who  retired  normally  after 20 years.
the retired ID.also allows access to  camping areas  and MWR  activities  such as  free rodeos  and
music   concerts etc.  There are  also  self help  garages and activity  centers for adults  and  children
plus bowling  alleys  and swimming  pools  etc.etc.

being active or retired does have advantages .
Hope that helps  to  answer your  question  somewhat .
