Your Basic High Desert Weather thing going on here.   32F at daylight and 75F about 6PM.   If I had a Dependable Ride I could go Panning.

When I was young and spry, a bicycle and two legs with my backpack would serve me well. I hunted and fished my way across America that way. Not a continuous trip, mind you, but my bicycle always came with me on cross country trips.

Yea me too.   I road a 10 speed bike up Mt Lemon out of Tucson  to Rose Canyon Lake and camped out.   Everyone I went with had top of the line 10 Speeds.     Had Mtn Gears and if needed every pedal would get you a Ft of travel but was so easy.  I had a Korean   Bike made to go fast and not up the slopes.    Never seen another like it.   Made by  by DIE YUNG!  I sware that was the name of the people that made it.    I could do the 3 miles from home to school with it  0n the Flats in 10 minutes.  Boy it was not a Up Hill Bike.     In first gear, it was all I could do getting it up the hills with my gear. (Food, Blankets and Sleeping Bag)  and any other goodies.    Had to walk it up a few hills.     After hours I made it and was most Proud.   Coming down the Mtn was another thing.  This thing had wheels so well balanced it didn't shake doing 50 MPH on the Down  hills.  Now I was head of the Pack.    Things went south when I hit the Breaks and the Rubber Stoppers on the Breaks decided to Jettison off the Bike and leave me with metal to Metal.  Did you know Shoe Laces wrapped around the Break Calipers works?     Cars freak out when there doing 45-50 mph and you pass them on 10 speed bikes.

Go Up Go Down

I had a lot of memories come flooding back when I made my comment too. I met Karl von Meuller on one of my bike journeys. I had a walkie-talkie with me with a 40 mile range (Amateur Radio type) and had my wife bring some groceries for us after I used mine up. It was a fascinating couple of days. He was a chain smoker and asked for a carton of smokes, too. Never paid for them though. My wife (ex, actually) didn't like him much and went back to the campgrounds with three of the kids. My oldest stayed. Camp fire and treasure hunting and tall tales to remember. What a time that was.

Was that the Muller that figured out the Muller Tube?

LOL - Most certainly not. Karl barely knew enough about electronics to insert hs batteries the right way. He wrote about advances in detectors but without any real detail.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.
