"Aw, Hell".....It happened again.    Here I had a great reply posted and sent and it disappeared into cyberspace.

Look guys, you can help or not.   I really don't care.  Just like I really don't care whether people fill out their profiles or not.   And if they tell me "Go to Hell" they won't be the first person to do so and they probably won't be the last to do it either.

But Seldom's right, the request for the information on members came from A.R.T. so it seems like it matters to you guys.  And if matters to you, then it would also follow that you would be willing to help.

Now into what I posted (and lost).......

Yes, the information is strictly voluntary and there are going to be people who don't want to and won't share it.   That's fine, it's their choice.  That being said IF you want to help here are the two best ways that I know how (and one of them allows you to avoid having them tell you to go to hell).

A)   Send them a PM in which you introduce yourself and welcome them to THunting and note that you noticed that they had not filled out the location part of their profile.   Explain to them that you know that it is optional and you fully understand that they might not want to share it and if they don't that's fine.   "It's just that we tend to form some pretty close ties here and we like to be able to check up on our members/friends when we hear about some disaster that might effect them.  So if you could at least put in something like "S.E. Kansas", or "west of Ft Worth" or "Upper Pennisula" or even "Florida", we would really appreciate it.  But if not, that's fine, too.   We respect your privacy and if you ever do need help, let us know.  We can't promise anything, but we'll do what we can"

B) Follow Cache's suggestion and keep a notebook next to your computer where you can write the information down when you read it in the New User Introduction.  That won't get the information out to the rest of the group, but at least you'll have it if anything happens and/or anyone asks.  The big advantage of this method is NO ONE can accuse you of violating anyone's privacy since you are just recording what they've made public themselves and that could be retrieved if someone wanted to take the time to look through every post by every member.

Actually, Seldom and Karl are probably right....one of us asking it when we welcome them would probably be the best solution.  (plus it keeps us from accidentally hitting them with more than one message --especially if they don't want to give it out)

Sounds Like a game Plan AU, Who ever is the first to greet them can ask. simple as that, here lately I haven't been doing as much , been busy on the phones ,email, FB, etc with these family problems etc, hope ya'll understand. I do good just to check in here the last couple of Days,

So Cache Keep an eye on Homie and AU and Pat and them for me, make sure they mind there manners and stuff and make sure ya'll ask folks nicely to add there info plz.
