big balls.  actually not all that big. i was able to identify the gun they were shot from, as far as size i mean, and also one was notched to adjust the weight they both were 2&1/4lb if memory serves.  they were found in a disturbed pile of dirt at a construction site on a bay beach near Tampa, Florida.....there was an old spanish salt works there a long time ago.  these were traded almost immediately.  the lead content of the stone sent the coinmaster into spasms, a nice thing.  that ore was probably from one of the lead/silver mines in mexico.  if you did not know these things existed you might not keep them...i carried them around in my backpack for a week or so then showed them to a bud, he knew what they were....the use of stone cannonballs was of very short duration, and they also shattered on firing so the only ones left are the drops.  if you found one of these, or a small pile, you would be way up there on the treasure meter....they originated in europe and england still has its buried share i am sure....b

Very cool! I'd definitely have assumed they were just unusually round rocks. Wouldn't want a few of these fired in my general direction, that's for sure.

i see this was posted in another category as well, from back when i found them....i guess i was tired of riding the bus or whatever....in florida i have found a lot of round rox chipped from agate and flint, pretty well nailed those down as sling stones, slings were very very good weapons priot to explosives....between atlatl and slings the ancient hunters had a lot of power...of course the only thin left over from a sling would be thge projectile, usually they are distinctive, some are discs, some whistle in flight....here is another thing that threw rox in ancient times and the projectiles are probably laying around europe still:
