homefire,

This comes from my local Parks and Rec:

"420.3.5 Metal detector - use - permit required
No person shall, within parkland or property operate a metal detector
without a permit."

Then, of course, there are all the other sections referring to digging, noise, garbage (16 page document)......no exceptions for detectionists.

Cheers,
Barb

LOL...yes, dang rules Angry

I have lived in my city all my life. I am active outside. I know a lot about the history of my city (very interesting) and I have never seen a detectionist. It's because of the rules. I'll play by the rules but I'll swing very, very, very close to the line...blur it Smiley

Cheers,
Barb

Ignorance is bliss but not a defence.

You really do have to do your research - information is power. With enough information you'll sometimes know more than those trying to enforce the rules  Smiley

they still try and enforce the wrong rules.....sometimes

get this .... in a small city just west of me  there is a park i wanted to detect in , i found out there is three possible offices i would have to check with.  the township office , the city hall  and the gvrd  (greater Vancouver regional district). within the city limits any park could be controlled by any one of the offices above!  As it turns out i did get permission, even dig tiny holes if needed (as in coin popping) I guess you just have to be persistent.

Yes, persistence is sometimes the key, I cannot tell you how the Politicians like to put up one roadblock after another, sometimes without any backing, just to see if you will go away.  IF you go away, they don't have to do anything, the goal of many a politician.
Keep asking, be polite, I have even had to remind one local representative, hey, you work for me, right?  BTW, he did not like that very much, hehehe.  But by the time he was finished with his BS, I was tired of listening, and he passed the buck, another great political trick.
Say, maybe some day I can talk you into visiting Silver Lake, just south of Abbottsford, for a day hunt, let me know if you are interested.

pulltabpete, for what it's worth you're going about it the right way and your count shows you are getting results.    (and the more people know that we provide a valuable service, the more the ridiculous restrictions will be lifted----at least until some idiot comes along and thinks he's too high and mighty to make his holes as small as possible and fill them when he is done.)

Just don't use a shovel, and dig clean plugs.  Bring a cloth with you to hold the dirt, and pop the coins when you can.  (I would think around 80% of the time, i'm just using a knife or screwdriver with a pinpointer).  Never had a problem yet.
