No Bambo here but I substituted with Saguaro Cactus in AZ when I was a kid. We called them the Old Men of the Desert. Here in New Mexico we have flat or brittle bush. Not as long or as strong but works. Ware there is a Way you can do it. The Creator Gave you Every Thing you need Every Place on Earth if you just learn to use it.

Firing the Shingles like he did would take some major time, wood and effort. Here I would do it another way.
