Have you tried a used book store?   Also, I've been picking up a lot of old (late 20's through 50's) maps of various California cities including San Diego on e-bay.  And don't forget yard sales and estate sales (even if you don't live in the area)

And welcome to THunting.com

Parks, School yards, beach. Were ever people get together. You will need to call the ISD and park board to find out were you can hunt, Some city's county's have laws about detecting

BLM land N.East of Hellhole Canyon is nice Wink

Same with any of the allowed BLM land near the Pala District.

You may want to look into old war maps, specifically the Mexican-American war. And even more specifically, the Battle of San Pasqual.

Here is a good web app for finding...just about anything.

It is run by BLM and US Forestry - it is the National Integrated Land System.

Some reading:
Afoot in Afield San Diego County
California Journal of Mines and Geology

Some linkage:
San Diego mine dumps(they have other cities also, just delete sandiego and input your city.html)
