Has anyone watched the Meteorite Man ?

I'm thinking about adding meterotite hunting to my list of to do's . I live in Hesperia California, anybody had any luck in my area, or any area.

I will post more later and tell you what kind of luck I'm having.

If you haven't already checked there, you may pick up a few tips and hints over at  the Prospecting & Minerals > Fossils, Meteorites, Rocks & Gems  section of the forum.

That's what I'd like to hunt also but not sure you can find them in Mississippi. I have seen Meteorite Men before, interesting for sure.

Mona,

Meteorites fall uniformly and randomly across the earth. They fall into the oceans, are sometimes laying right on the surface in hard soil locations like deserts and are even found in Antarctica in the snow. In your neck of the woods, with soft loamy soil, they are likely to be deep but rest assured they are there in the same numbers as anywhere else on planet earth.

Keep looking. The next time you find a rock that sends your metal detector into spasms, you will be glad you don't use the discrimination setting. If you do, turn it off. You might have missed dozens of them already. Your detector will pass them by when iron is discriminated.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Get yourself a nice broom stick, screw on a 71lb pull neodymium magnet and start poking rocks!

I was debating setting up a fishing pole, with some strong line, attached a strong magnet and 'fishing' for anything that happens to stick. Set up a nice lawn chair, crack a beer and fish fish fish!  Grin It would be a fun way to collect iron filings even if you don't reel in any lunkers. hahahaha
