Found my Walmart version of the Tracker in pieces and put it back together. Had to use a 4" coil from another tracker I traded. I don't even have the knobs on yet. Set the discriminator with a nickel and tried it at 2 schools that I had gone over with 3 other brands and found this. Now, I have a 7" coil from another long-gone Tracker and don't know whether to leave the 4" on or not. I could hardly believe my finds! Crazy

Yes. Walmart came out with a cheaper built version of the Fast Tracker, but with a shoddy coil and no headphone jack. I had one a few years back and still had a few extra coils and decided to put the 4" on it. I'm undecided on whether to leave it or put on the 7" coil.

I read once that the off brand BH detectors, Walmart, Radio Shack &c, are made in China for First Texas and the Bounty Hunter branding is made in the US by First Texas?  I like the First Texas Machines, especially their selection of low cost coils that fit most all of their machines. Guess I would use the 7 inch, but it sure looks like the 4 inch coil is doing a good job.

If I remember correctly, the instruction said this one was First Texas. Most people don't know that BH has made some quality improvements like closed-environment workspaces and the protective coating on the breadboards. The early Trackers weren't scrutinized that much. I think most of my success with the 4" coil was due to the fact that I was in some confined areas. There are some schools that I search that have the area of 3-4 football fields and I think I would be better off w/the 7" coil.

for the more open less trashy spots gow with the 7 in coil ---in tighter smaller trashy areas the smaller  4 in coil cuts thru the trash without "co mingling" the signals from other near by metal items as much--so  good items are not masked by other near by  useless items.

I found a BH Fast Tracker in a pawn shop about a week ago. It's lower tube was broken and coil was missing but the tag was marked $46 .  I offered $10 and got it. I had an extra 8" coil that I bought for an old Quicksilver that I had given away and fabbed an extention to the broken lower tube out of PVC and epoxy. Back in business! This is a good back up for My BH Lone Star and seems a little less complicated than the L.S. Have also ordered a new lower tube from a discount parts company.  Have also a 4" and 10" coil and have heard that an 11" oval coil is also on the market. The good thing about Bounty Hunter is that you can get a pretty good setup if you look around for bargains and have the interchangable coils.
