Hi Everyone, Waiting for my BH Pioneer 505 to arrive,
was REALLY hoping to use stronger NiMH re-chargable 9v. v.s. meager (recommended) alkalines, has anyone tried?
And does a higher (200/500)mAh # mean a stronger and/or longer lasting? or...? Thanks for any tips  Undecided

Welcome to Thunting.com from New Mexico.

I think nimh rechargeable 9v Suck!  LOL

Your going to find they kick butt for a while and then they will peater out on you.

Even good ol NiCads are a pile better if treated right.

Ni batteries self discharge very bad.

They refuse to take a charge after even 25 charges or so.

Have fun with them.

Alkaline and Ni Cads is all I ever use.

good to know, so if they are not alkalines they won't harm the workings of the detector? I guess is what I'm wondering

Alkaline are better in the long run for me.

NiMh produce 1.2v but are noted for higher current.

Most modern Detectors have a Voltage regulator to take care of the voltage  change over discharge time.

No they will not hurt your detector.

I just found they do not last as I thought they would and was most disappointed .   You will find Lithium Batteries the same.

As has been pointed out, alkaline is better overall but not cheaper. If you use the NiMh, they have a 120mah rating while the alkaline has a typical rating of 900mah. That sets the time you can expect from a single set of batteries. As you can see, the alkaline has a higher number and therefore will last longer. If you use NiMh instead, plan on the voltage being lower (typically, the NiMh batteries are 8.4 volts versus 9v for alkaline) and carry two sets of spares just to have when the battery suddenly goes below a working level for the detector.

There are some made with higher voltages but they come with a hefty price tag. Here are some which also boast a 230mah rating at just over 9v.

Again, I have never had any luck with the NiMh type.

They just were not cost effective for me.    Refused to hold a charge after time.   Refused to charge not long after.

Makita has a bunch of my money buying replacements for my Drill.   LOL

This site has some discharge curves of them.

They do not talk about the life span.

Cool Stuff.   Looks like there getting better.      I wonder if they do the same crap on life and chargeability in time.

Boy , I've never had anything but troubles with LI batteries and Lap Tops.

They DO NOT LIKE HEAT!
