I have the opportunity to purchase a brand new in the box, close out Time Ranger fro $159 and free shipping. Is this a good deal? Can't be buying detectors all the time on SS but this seems like a "Don't pass it up" type of deal. I know they have been discontinued but it still has the 5 years warranty. What say ye oh GURUs of the detector?

Well I went and done it. Couldn't resist the temptation. After taxes it was $173. It comes with two coils. Standard 8" and the 4" "gold" coil. This one will be used primarily for relic hunting and around old houses. The 2200 I just got will find a 3/16 x1/8 gold nugget 3 inches deep in my test garden so It should do very well for general hunting. Anyone have any experience with the Time Ranger? Tips or tricks?

Well it came in. Rained the first day but I was able to get it out in the test garden for a while today. It works better with the 4 inch coil than the 8 inch for gold and coin hunting. Relics are better with the 8 inch coil. Depths surprised me. I have a quarter buried at a measured 7 inches and it picked it up with a strong signal. The pinpoint feature (no motion all metal) works great. All metal ground balanced mode give astounding depth on relics. A belt buckle at 10 inches was no trouble to detect. I think I am going to like this thing. Kiss

Looks like you have a keeper there RB. Congratulations. Now go out and find something so you can post pictures of your finds.

UPDATE!! Finally got to take the Ranger out today for a little while. I decided to give it a fair test so I took it to a school that has been hunted HARD for a long time. I was there less than two minutes when I found the first penny. All in all I found 7 pennies ( one was copper), a dime (clad) and a 1952 nickel. Also found a connector that is used for tying the transformer to the power line and of all things, a fired expanded bullet. Looked to be 30 caliber. This was in a place that had been filled in so it is hard to tell where it came from. All in allin just over an hour in hard hunted area I think the machine did really well.
