Go Up Go Down

I declined to get out to one of my favorite dump sites on Jan 23rd just too much to do at home.
I received an e-Mail from a fellow dump digger and him and some of the other diggers were out there. Great day for digging. Well they had a newbie with them and he was gathering up some of our toss outs. We try to let others know that if they dig long enough they too will be tossing them out as well.
To make a long story shorter a small copperhead had found out that the darker bottles made a good place to keep warm in the sun. I won't mention his name but when he stuck his finger inside the bottle to pick it up, bang, the snake bit him on the finger.
The group abandoned their gear and took him to the hospital for emergency assistance.
I think he learned a valuable lesson. Listen to the experience of others and don't wander around. Stick with the group and you will gain some of the learned lessons of others.
Even in January, here in Texas, snakes do make their presence known.
BTW: They took out some really nice stuff mainly Marbles......

I feel for the guy......People have to realize that when the snakes aren't out where you can see them, they have to be somewhere that you can't (they aren't like birds---they can't fly away for the winter).....so if you live in snake country, YOU always have to assume there is a snake waiting any place you can't see clearly and then take appropriate precaution.

BTW....one of the prettiest snakes I ever saw was a copperhead that had just shed its skin......it was crawling across a place that I was getting ready to reach into.   Fortunately I noticed it before it noticed me.  In that particular instance we both survived unscathed.   Couldn't see myself killing it since it was headed off in a direction that would take it away from other people and I was in its habitat rather than my own.

I don't think i would be too polite if that thing bit me, Back in OZ I was 2/3 through a bottle of scotch and a Huntsman spider bit
on the foot It's not very poisonous if at all but they grow between 4 and 6 inches across, He just stood up and bang right on the middle
toe, serves me for gettin on the squeezins Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Jan 2003!

I stepped on what I thought was a Cow Paddy!

Looked down and it was a damn 4ft Mojave!

It was so cold out that it could just about move.

Who expects Snake in Jan?

Since then I've seen two more between Jan and Feb.

Always after about 3 days of good sun.

If it was a little warmer I would have been Zapped for sure.
