The infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum covers the range from roughly 300 GHz (1 mm) to 400 THz (750 nm). It can be divided into three parts:

Far-infrared, from 300 GHz (1 mm) to 30 THz (10 μm). The lower part of this range may also be called microwaves. This radiation is typically absorbed by so-called rotational modes in gas-phase molecules, by molecular motions in liquids, and by phonons in solids. The water in the Earth's atmosphere absorbs so strongly in this range that it renders the atmosphere effectively opaque. However, there are certain wavelength ranges ("windows") within the opaque range which allow partial transmission, and can be used for astronomy. Mid-infrared, from 30 to 120 THz (10 to 2.5 μm). Hot objects (black-body radiators) can radiate strongly in this range. It is absorbed by molecular vibrations, where the different atoms in a molecule vibrate around their equilibrium positions. This range is sometimes called the fingerprint region since the mid-infrared absorption spectrum of a compound is very specific for that compound.

Near-infrared, from 120 to 400 THz (2,500 to 750 nm). Physical processes that are relevant for this range are similar to those for visible light.

What's so different about infrared?

At the first glance, a monochrome picture taken in infrared may look similar to just another black and white photograph. And then you start seeing differences: objects which are bright in visible light (like sky) look dark here, while some of those which are "normally" dark (green foliage) acquire a bright glow. An unusual and eerie feeling.

This can be explained with the graph below, showing the fraction of light reflected off various materials at various light colors (wavelengths). The height of the curves to the left of 600 nm shows how bright these materials are in visible light; to the right of 700 nm ? how bright they are in infrared.

The most dramatic difference between the visible and infrared spectrum is in case of foliage: it does, indeed, become very bright in infrared.

 [wise]So maybe, just maybe, the target reflects most of the IR while the soil around it absorbs it. A bit like a reverse notch filter on a detector. But if this is the case, the target would show as a little spot of glow, not a big blur. More experimentation needed here methinks.....
And let us not forget that the people who attempt to make money out of these ideas have no technical background and take the money from those of similar standing.

Actually hand held IR detectors/cameras are used for a wide varity of things, like missing insulation in a house, leaks around windows, and even leaks on air conditioner hook ups. Also here they are only talking up to 700 nm/khz range( i got that wrong but you get the idea). These devices go much higher.

My support of Dave is the minerals in the ground enter the root systems of plants, and plants give off carbon dioxide amoung other gases. I believe a IR camera may be able to pick up certain PPM of these plant gases, thus telling you whats burried there.

Unfortunately the book is not helping people, so I dont support buying the book. I dont need to buy the book when the info is already out there. There is also some other things that can be added to the camera, but I dont know if this will help with the process or not.

Im not sure Dave understands his own camera. Or he is very secretive, now a treasure hunter who is secretive. Imagine that. He has did it, so not sure why he would even share it.
