Since there has been interest in Electroscopes on this forum I thought readers might be interested in what I learned from professional treasure hunter Tommy Veal about his use of Electroscopes shortly after he won the 1990 World Champion Scoper competition. At that time he had been working with electroscopes for over two years.
"I practice all the time. I will set different things down and sweep back and forth over the samples to see the reaction of the machine.
Different people have diverse levels of sensitivity. "I am very sensitive so I often pick up false targets. I have tried a lot of different equipment and they all may pull to false targets. The operator is what makes the machine."
"I use all sorts of equipment. If I don't have the correct equipment for a certain job I find someone who has what I need to help me out.
"A two box detector is great to use with an Electroscope. You can cut a week's work down to two days by just detecting carefully and deeply the spot indicated by the Electroscope.
"I don't worry about single coins or even care to coin shoot because I am going for the big stuff. It's just more adventure. You need to find big ticket items if your going to stay in the field."
"I always practice my philosophy of personal integrity as I travel the country treasure hunting."
I don't know what Tommy is doing now days. I believe Del mentioned something about him not long ago on one of the forums.
