Hi all,
Just asking for some advice with regards to detecting beaches
.
I just bought my first, what i'd call a "Proper" metal detector
, A Garrett Ace 200i (but advertised as a 300i in the picture
. If it is what i suspect, i got a 300i for a REALLY good price!
) - However i'm still awaiting for it be delivered in the post
.
I have just watched some youtube vids etc on the detector and it seem it was not the best choice when it comes to beach detecting.
The detector comes with a 7"x10" Concentric PROformance coil. All well and good for coin shooting and relic hunting around parks and farms, but i heard it is not so good in mineralised ground and salt water, such as beaches. Is this true?
The question is: Is it worth while to also buy a 5"x8" DD PROformance coil for this machine, or larger, for beach detecting as i have heard that DD coils are less suseptible to ground mineralisation and salt water, giving clearer signals in these types of zones. Is this also true?
Yes i know it is not ideal taking a Garrett Ace metal detector to the beach as its main housing is not waterproof, however the coils are and its a risk i'm willing to take. I'm also not intending to take it paddling into the sea or rock pools as it will be game over if i drop it..
Many thanks in advance for all your inputs and feedback.
