Seen it happen right in front of me, a friend had found a nice $100 pair of sun glasses on the beach. There was only a little old lady sitting on a blanket and he found them about 20 feet from her. He came over and showed me the new found glasses, and decided to wear them instead of the ones he had brought and was wearing. The little old lady was only about 10 feet away when he did this. We continued to hunt the beach and about a half hour later this guy in his 20s comes out and asks the old lady on the blanket if she saw any glasses on the beach, she said that guy over there found some. The guy walked over and asked my friend for the glasses he was wearing as he had just lost them about an hour ago, saying that he still had the receipt in his car and had just paid $100 for them a day ago. Lucky for him that my friend had found them. He gave them back of course, and we had a good laugh over his short time wearing them. If my friend had just put them in his pouch and never showed them to me in public, he likely would still have them, as the lady wouldn't have seen anything. Of course if he asked my friend about them, he would have got them back anyway.  Just goes to show that flashing your finds around can cause you to lose them. This was the true owner that claimed them, but he could have been a guy who just seen him pick them up and wear them and made believe they were his. We were glad the true owner got them back anyway.

For sure hunt them early in the year or on cold days or late afternoon or after holidays.

Look for lakes that lower the water levels at the end of the boating season, lots of good hunting there also, Good Luck....DW

When i am working the dry sand I drag my left foot. When i am swinging my MD (i am right handed) i rarely cross too far past the left side of my body. When i am progressing I always know what area I detected due to my swing pattern and drag mark.

I don't recommend the drag string if you live in Hawaii. One swift wave and you might find yourself caught like a fish on the coral. Also I find more lead weights than I can shake a stick at. Probably 1lb per visit. Always carry a knife in case you find yourself caught in fishing line. It's everywhere. I use the depth method to proximate my search. Maintain water level on your body as you search perp to the shore. It's not exact and the tides do change. Pay attention to the current! People die every week here spearfishing (my other hobby) because they got swept out even in waist deep water. I blame the tiger sharks Shocked
