That's an excellent tip that people seem to overlook----if you aren't careful, y'all spend the day looking for YOUR lost ring  Smiley

I use the rectangular approach on the beach and double scan (up and down - then - left to right).  It take more time; however ensures thorough detection.  As far as the extra time it takes is concerned, for me, just being out there is half the fun.

Hello Everyone,
I hope this tip is on the right board  Funny, anyway, here
in the great northwest Seattle Washington most recient. It appears that
our great military in its infinate wisdom had decided through-out the years
as late as the 50's anyway. Have dumped thousands of unexploded ordenance
rounds and heavy shells in coastal waters, These rounds can be extreamly dangerious and could become unstable and possibily explode if handled the wrong way on a recovery. Although they are a great find! indeed for ones collection, the best bet is to let these Boom-Booms alone!!!! If you do happen to find these on a dive, the best thing to do is record the location and report it
to the local authorties or the coast guard. I would suggest when you contact them use the non-emergency telephone number that they have listed and report
the location, Unless you think its an emergency, IE- washed up on the shore,
or a shell is in an area that is used for recreation. Although this could
happen anywhere, The main areas are coastal waters where there are a Navy
bases. The dept of defence is currently trying to recover these dangerious
devices. But lets face it some of these were dumped over 50 years ago. and military intellengence is an oxy moron! As those of us who have served know all to well. So if you happen to find one of these lovely items and you take a underwater cam take a picture or two, for your finds, and report the find. The Govt will thank you, But even better you may just save someones life, by reporting this. Cuz lets face it people are curious and remeber the old saying
curiousity KILLED the cat! and In this case satisfaction WON'T BRING THEM BACK!... As Always Best Wishes & Stay Safe,,,,,Rob

Yep, in the Uk they did this too, especially off the coast of Northern Ireland, Germany has the same problem on the Ost Zee. I youīre at any of theses places be careful. Also what looks like AMBER is quite often old PHOSPHERUS so be carefull of thinking you got some nice lloking amber to made jewelry, when it dries itīll ignite, and if itīs in your pocket, it could burn through you leg

Be careful !

STRING IN THE WATER A TERRIBLE IDEAL FOR SAFETY!

We are not the only ones use of the beach and water.
Lifeguards will run you off.
Plus the hazards for swimmers.
Plus another reason you give for them to do away with are Hobby.

My vote is this is a bad idea !
I like MD and would hate to see it banned on beaches !
