I am new to the hobby but intend to delve a bit deeper as time allows. Does anyone know the law on Beach/Surf detecting on the UK beaches. We have some fantastic beaches which have been popular for years and I have not seen many detectorists working them.
What detector would you expert recommend. Most of the sands are yellow/white quartz and fine sandstone.

Both at high tide and low tide. the coil would need to be waterproof but the electronics would not be immersed, only needs to be splash proof. I have a fully submersible detector which is a pulse induction and seems work well but it is only hand held and about 350mm long.ideal for snorkelling but not beach work.

I'd go and get a longer shaft would be a lot cheaper and you already know that the detector works well so why buy another one besides that the best bet would be a PI coil 280mm is optimum for beach work and is the best compromise between small objects sensitivity, depth, pinpointing and coverage "Eric Foster".
