Most 9v rechargeable batteries are only rated at 8.4v. Make sure you get the kind that are true 9v. In the case of metal detectors, the voltage is a reference used by operational amplifiers inside your detector. If the reference voltage starts out too low, your machine will not be doing you much good. This is the one you want manufactured by Vapex:

Slightly lower in stored power but the fact that it starts at 9.6v will pay you dividends.
