I bought a new DFX300 and thus far, have been successful on the first few days on dryland..Today, I decided to try it on a mediterranean beach. There really isn't anything in the owners manual that helped. There is a mfg program installed for jewelry and beaches so..... I went out and turned it on and ground balanced the unit on the above program. Wow, I got soooo many unusual sounds that I never heard before. I thought the unit was defective or .... ? I could not distinguish between the various sounds (targets v. trash). I tried some adjustments with audio/threshhold,etc., without success. I therefore turned the MD off and re-booted. No change. After some time and frustration, I decided to merely abandon the program and chose the coin & jewelry pre-set program and this was much better. I could distinguish between good targets and trash (and there was a lot of trash). I am just trying to learn about this unit so I don't expect to be an expert immediately but I thought I would ask others what might be happening and how I can adjust it..One thought that I had was that I may have too much power and perhaps I need to turn the power down. Another thought I had was that with the big 12" coil, I was getting too many targets/feedback. I have ordered a DD 6 x 10 but it will be a week to two before I get it. I probably won't be going to the beach in the interim (focusing on dryland). I am hoping to get some assistance from this forum and perhaps someone can suggest some literature that I can read to make me a better detectorist. (I believe the beach has high mineralization/salt and a lot of trash) .Coloma Gold
