There is presently no Tesoro Stingray on eBay. Youwill have to keep on going back and check when tehre's one available. This is the cheapest recommendable detector I can think of. All the other machines will be more expensive and all the cheaper ones like the Viper Trident etc. are a waste of money.

Are you using it in salt water or fresh water? The Stingray or Tiger Shark might not be your best bet for salt water. You've kind of limited yourself with the 200.00 budget. Is it because you dont know if you will like water detecting or is that all the budget will allow?

Garrett GTI2500, Fisher Gold Bug II
« Reply #16 on: October 28, 2009, 01:23:56 am »
Go Up Go Down

I am gathering information to make a decision on what I want to look for in a future purchase of a new or used unit.  I want to get an underwater detector and am wondering which models would work the best.  I would mainly be using it in fresh water, primarly for gold, but ocassionally will be looking for jewelry, coin and relics.  However I would like saltwater/beach capabilities for the same.  Would vlf model like a Fisher Aquanaut 1280X, or a pulse induction model work better in both worlds?

Cost range under $500 if possible as I have a Garrett GTI 2500 and a Fisher Goldbug II which are my main detectors (among others).

Thanks for any help with this.

I think your best bet is a pre-owned Fisher CZ-20 / CZ-21 (same unit). It is still the best underwater metal detector in my oppinion. You can find one in good condition for under USD 500.00 on eBay.

Best wishes,

Christian

I agree, the Headhunter Pulse is a good beach/water detector. It goes deep and works well, even good detection on tiny items. It has no discrimination which is the only drawback if you are in a trashy area. Under $500 bucks in many cases and real easy to use.
