The crocodile population over here has rebounded over the years, and the variety which resides in salt/brackish water are the most aggressive. Is there some kind of croc repellent which would make detecting in such areas safer?

Leave them to guard the treasure. Go and find your own.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I would recommend detecting with someone that cannot run quite as fast as yourself. Its the Buddy system, with a Catch.

I'm laughing, Toolmaker! Maybe it's an acquired taste, but I've known some to like marshmallows so maybe you could dump several bags of them in an area away from you and it would give them something to do, going after those floating morsels.

Well Sue, maybe a Shotgun that fires rounds of Smore's...?

I enjoy hunting for treasure, maybe more than most, the research, historical records, travel, risk...it is addicting. But if an animal larger than myself is involved, it might be time to draw the line.

Hello All

There is a very simple answer to this. No treasure is worth dying for and attempting to metal detect in Crocodile infested water is the height of stupidity.

Crocodiles are more active at night however they are also active in the day. They will stalk you with out you even knowing that they are there. They are the masters of surprise and amazingly fast when they grab you and when they have got you, you are dinner.

Even if you are lucky to survive the initial attack with out a limb missing you may succumb to the bacteria that is on the teeth of the crocodile that infects the wounds causing your blood to become toxic.

Better to metal detect elsewhere.

Hardluck
