i would like to show the type of ground i am detecting most of the time.
in the photos you can see the layers of black sand.
And there are many.
Add to it salty water, iron stone, and lot of iron junk.
Not many detectors can work this ground and conditions,
if your detector can please let me know, the make and model
especially in you are in Australia-Melbourne

The GMT would not only work but be able to tell you about how much Black Sands there is.  Wont discriminate the Iron but Grunts letting you know what it is.  Problem with that detector is at 48Khz your not going to get very deep.

Wonder how the CZ-21 would do. I have used mine in light black sands. Here is what Fisher says>> "Highly Mineralized Soil or Sand. The Auto-Tune Mode is recommended for black and gray beaches or highly mineralized soil. Under these conditions it may be necessary to lower the sensitivity level and sweep several inches off the ground. Gold nuggets are generally found in highly mineralized soil so this will be the search mode of choice for prospectors."

I've used my Viper Trident in all kinds of sand, mud, salt water, highly mineralized sand, etc., with great outcomes.

The Viper runs at 12kHz.  Not worth the $500 price tag, but you can find them online for around $250-300.

When the Viper says dig, dig.

Hope this helps a little.

Your MXT should be able to deal with it at a reduced Gain and it can also find it too.

Did you try to ground balance it out, I know the MXT will ground balance out large magnetic signs that go on cars, and it will balance out fridge magnets etc,

i read on the whites forum (can't remember the name of the member but he was someone  from Whites)
that no single frequency detector can work in the type of ground that we got here.
yes i can balance it and work great for one or two swings then need to balanced again.tracking straggles
very good on dry sand. Not on the wet.
by the way i will try to answer the same question when i got 200 hours of detecting experience with the MXT

Yeah was wondering how it does in the salt mode because the mineral content would go from one extreme to the other while using the Salt mode on the beach and then finding black when using the tracking.
