I feel sorry for the guy who asked this very straight forward sensible question.  Except for the fellow that obviously has a grip on reality because he's been there and actually knows the Chinese people a little, the rest of the posts reads like a bunch of forth graders comments.

Hopefully someone that has something constructive and accurate to say will read this question and give some accurate info because if it is legal for tourists to hunt there I bet it would be a great place to find jewelry even if people aren't rich they still own gold items and lose them, DUH!

How constructive is your post? Not at all. But thanks for trying.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

eww with that many people on the beach and in the water there would be nuggets for sure, unfortunatly not the gold type.
I don't think youd catch me there even if beach detecting was allowed.

Just go on alibaba.com and put metal detecting in the product request box. There sure are many suppliers of MD equipment. They supply many of our made in the USA retailers.

Maybe they could answer your question.  Police Police Police Shocked

OK I've been to China and they are a wonderful culture. Very friendly, they love Americans. Just because governments don't always get along doesn't mean that the citizens of that country don't want to get along with other people. And you'll find they are far more courteous than your average American. You don't have to worry about being mugged because they will put you to death if you steal more than a certain amount 12000 RMB I heard, about $2000. This is a fact not conjecture. I felt safe in the worst of neighborhoods. I wouldn't suggest breaking any laws because they don't mess around. But, safety is really not an issue there. As far as metal detecting I think antiquity laws would be your biggest problem. They take their cultural history pretty seriously. But you guys are missing the boat on detecting in China, it's not gold on the beach, it's the 1000's of years of history during which coins and relics have been lost that is the real treasure. You think finding a 16th century coin is cool... wait til you find a 2000 year old Chinese coin. It would be awesome if you could detect there, but you would have to check national and local laws and get permission and it would probably still get you in trouble. But for those with the means and the perseverance give it a try. And for everyone else, my advice is if you get the chance to go to China get your passport and get on a plane, you'll never regret it. But be sure to open your mind, their culture is definitely different from ours and you may be shocked at some things, but remember they are shocked at some of our culture too.
