Addicted To The Beach

Well it's official....I am hopelessly addicted to MDing on the beach!

I have been to Galveston more this year than I have in the past 5 years combined! I find MDing on the beach very relaxing (even though you have to answer 50 million questions from the gawkers). The more I have gone, the more I have learned about my detector, as well as conditions at the beach. I will go out in the Gulf as far as my knees with my DFX, but it is difficult to keep the coil submerged (need to get a different one for it). I have had some good luck while searching both wet and dry sand though. The past 2 times I have been, I have been able to locate the coin line fairly easily, and have really been digging solid targets.

I have put in 2 custom beach programs that really seem to work well for me, and in the process have learned alot about my DFX. The large beach scoop that I bought from Alexander Enterprises in Houston has been great! I have been digging targets out in one shot usually, and the long handle is great! I have also been utilizing some tide charts for the Galveston area so that I can try and hit the beaches as close to a low tide as I can. There is ALOT of seaweed on the beaches right now, and floating around in the water, so the tides make all the difference and give me alot more ground to work with.

My last trip out I found a couple of handfuls of clad, as well as a cross with Jesus on it that came off of a necklace. I have not been able to find any type of markings on it, so I am not sure if it is silver or maybe pewter....can't really tell (that is one of the areas that I am weak in, coin/jewelry makeup/identification). I will try and get some pictures of it on this set of days off and post them here to see if anyone can help me. Just wanted to share some of my experiences with everyone here, and hopefully it will keep a few people motivated or draw some other in!

Heading to the beach this weekend for my first beach hunting experience. Hope all goes well and to find only a fraction of what you mentioned above. Going to Panama City Beach on Florida gulf coast. Hope I don't encounter any oil.

I am headed down to Galveston Island in a couple weeks and am looking forward to some beach/sand hunting.  Would you like to share any good locations, just between you & me?  wink, wink.
I have been reading the history of the island, and it seems like there should be treasure everywhere!
Seriously, any suggestions would be appreciated.  we are going to the mmiddle section of the island, a few miles so of the city.

Sorry guys, it has been a while since I have been on. Lots of overtime at work, and getting ready to leave for vacation! Summer is always busy at work, and with the kids. Hopefully will be back to a normal pace after Summer!
