Go Up Go Down

Hi All,

I live in Townsville and contacted the City Council about detecting on the beaches around the local district. I said that I could find some rules other Councils have about not to detect around visitors laying on the sand and just common courtesy issues.

The girl I spoke to at the Council reception said she couldn't find anything in the Council laws and put me on hold while she checked with someone else.

When she came back she said that "no, detecting on the beaches is not allowed". This apparently is because previous people detecting on the beaches caused to much damage?Huh?Huh?Huh?

Thinking that you would be only detecting around areas where people have had their towels laid out to lay/sit on and if you did detect anything you would sift through the sand, so the damage bit still gets me a bit.

I do understand that in every sport/hobby/business/interest, there are "boneheads" who spoil it for everyone else.

So wondering if anyone has any comments on their local council laws about detecting on your beaches. Thumbs Down

I would have asked her what the Rule,Regulation or Law number was.

You surrender Too Easy!

Keep looking for written laws, regs or rules.

If you can't find any , detect it with due considerations of others.

Early in the morning?

We have other members from down there and I'm sure you will hear from them.

Again, Don't cave in so fast.

As I indicated in a previous post, I detected along the beach at Bargara near Bundaberg and had no problems. I did not approach the council after seeing all the posts both here and overseas where the mention of council approval is not sought. I have also read an article on beach detecting by a prominent detectorist in Qld where permission is never mentioned. Think it is a case of go looking for trouble and you will find it.

Hello Ridge Runner, I am from Caboolture. In the process of finding a local History book to find possible sites to try my luck on. Are you reasonably close to arrange to possibly meet?

No Mate I'm still over here in the UK,

If you find your way up to Maroochydore, Picnic Point right of the boat ramp is a good place,
also if you go down maroochydore high streetand turn left after the bridge theres a lagoon near
the caravan park and a big grass picnic area there, check the tide times coz they are an hour
after Brisbane, Dont go up to Bli Bli because the mozzies will carry you off,
another good place is Alexander headland and there is a great little Bay on the left by maloolaba Harbour.
I hope this helps, they are the busy areas so you should do well there.

Hello Spec.
I have not used the detector for some time due to health problems and no car. However, I would certainly be interested in having a chat and see where we go.

Tom
