I enjoyed reading the articles and checking the videos out. My Marine Grandfather was there at that time in Okinawa & on all the other Japanese held Islands.

Hi Bob,

lol, now that sounds very nice, and I'll have to get some facts together for you when I can get them out and put them in proper order.

As you were, he retired from the Corps with 30 years service at Master Gunnery Sargent E-9, he spoke German & Japanese pretty well early on and was involved with ground R.I.O. in those WW2 Island battle campaigns amoungst other things, so he picked rank up quickly early on.

Then came Korea, and his service there....

The 3 tours in Viet Nam, and duty assignments were varied and included Radar and radio intercept..

He retired at 30 yrs service & then took a base civil service position at New River base Air station @ LeJeune. Radar intercept & repair, and worked 10 full years on Civil service...So his full duty of government service was 40 years all in the USMC! (He passed away some 7 years later by the hands of Cancer caused by Agent-Orange most likely poisened by that junk in Viet Nam)


My Father's a USMC Korean war Veteran....and I enlisted into the Corps in October of 1980, following after the call of duty of our family's footsteps.

nice find i bought one on eBay about 7 yrs ago been working on the blade to bring out the temper line.
my blade was all rusted up the seller found it in the upstairs of a 2 story house in the wall
when they were remodeling.
do you know much about it? have you taken the handle off to see if it was singed by the maker?

The stones are a fortune... Ive never worked with nihonto... only my personal cutters. I have had luck with automotive sandpapers and Flitz on leather.

You can use lemon juice to etch the hamon... but these are tricks we use on modern blades if we polish out a cutter.

I'm a Iaidoka and bamboo trick cutter. I have weird hobbies.

Gotta have a keen eye on Ebay with swords.... the chinese are getting fairly crafy turning out distressed looking stuff and passing em of as gunto.
