Hi Chym,
Thanks for the added pics! its still hard to make out, But I will tell you
one thing old weapons that have inlay in them were usally for the well-to-do
or rich folk that could afford them. Of course way back in the day a weapon didnt cost that much, by todays prices, But then again look at what the average person
made for a days pay. A big diffrence. case & point during the civil war the US Govt contracted with Colt & Remington firearms companies.
Colt being the first, If I remember correctly colt charged 21 or 22 dollars for each handgun, and then Remington came along and built thier revolver and charged less I believe around 12.00 Us Dollars. Now If I could find weapons at these prices today, I would buy everyone I could and sit on them, Look at what a colt and remington are worth today!
It is possible that your weapon is french, But just from what I can see it is no
fowling piece. Fowling pieces were low priced guns for hunting, while guns that
were inlayed heavly and engraved were for more of the elite and rich.
Old arms such as these can be worth a bundle! as long as they are right, the condition dose not have to be factory new eathier. Let me know if you can find your notes or if you can finds any hallmarks on the weapon thisd will help a great deal.,,,Best Wishes ,,,Rob
