I had a surplus Arisaka back in the late 1950's. I got it for about $20. I wasn't crazy about it because the 7.7mm ammo was hard to get then. I enjoyed it more when I discovered that it would also take the British .303 and that the Japanese designed the Arisaka so when they took the continent they'd be able to use all the captured .303 ammo. I plinked the barrel smooth, so I could save my Springfield trap-door .45-70 for serious shooting. I also discovered the .45-70 would take 410 shotshells, but that is another story.
