I've heard of around Talladega/Dekalb county area in North East Alabama, but don't recall any details.

Arabochee, I think the spelling is correct was a very nice gold mine in production in the early 1900's in Alabama. According to documentation the area surrounding the Talledaga National forrest and the ares of the Forrest were productive in gold production. I was there this past weekend scouting for places to go. I have a trip planned this weekend for a dig..will let you know how we do. One point I recall from the laws in Alabama. ALL waterways are considered under the control of the state and as long as you are on the river and within 10 foot of the flood line this is under the juridiction of the Army corp of engineers and has public access through the river.
