During World War 2, The Buffalo was developed as a shipboard fighter for the US Navy, the Buffalo saw combat with the RAF not over England but at Cairo, in Burma and at Singapore.
Through a misunderstanding a newly arrived boatload of Brewster Buffalos was ordered away from the Singapore Piers during the Japanese Invasion of that stronghold. Although there were plenty of eagerly waiting mechanics to quickly assemble the planes and an airstrip to fly them off of, the ship steamed away and was sunk shortly after leaving the harbor's protective shore batteries.
I got that information from an old World War 2 airplane book. That's all the information I have. If that ship could be found and salvaged, think of the treasures it holds.
